Welcome to the Built Green® Tri-Cities and Walla Walla home page! You are taking the first step towards creating a safer, healthier and more energy efficient community through the Built Green® Program. Built Green® homes are High Performance Homes that can save you money!
The goal of the Built Green® Tri-Cities and Walla Walla Program is to work in partnership to create safer, healthier and more efficient homes, reduce negative impacts of construction and development, and improve and protect the valuable community and natural resources of the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla regions.
We will achieve this by:
- Using a voluntary, market-driven approach
- Delivering a credible standard for home construction that reflects the Home Builders Association of Tri-Cities and Walla Walla's commitment to building better communities through environmental responsibility
- Providing information and education to enhance the capacity of our design and building professionals to employ effective technologies, products, and practices to achieve the standard
- Actively promoting the features and benefits of these practices to homebuyers, making Built Green the preferred consumer standard.
The Built Green Home Builder Program was tailored for the Built Green program of the Home Builders Association of Tri-Cities. It represents the combined effort of a Technical Committee composed of HBA members, community representatives, environmental organizations, and industry experts from the Cities of Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, West Richland and Walla Walla, and Benton, Franklin, and Walla Walla Counties. The Tri-Cities HBA developed the program in 2007 and 2008.
Homes enrolled in the program are rated by the Association based on the number of Built Green features included in the home. Construction projects meeting program standards are awarded a 3, 4 and 5-star rating and require a third-party verifier. Built Green utilizes a market-based approach that encourages and promotes the use of efficient development and provides new home and remodeling project buyers with homes that are more energy efficient, provide improved indoor air quality and health benefits and promotes sustainable construction practices. Built Green provides additional choices in housing, provides environmental and economic benefits to both the consumer and community, and encourages job creation in recycling, energy efficient products and materials.
